Mesothelioma And Asbestos Biopsy
February 25th, 2010
There are several different forms of mesothelioma and asbestos. This is why biopsies are important. This is the best way for doctors to get a better understanding of the type of mesothelioma that you have so that they will better be able to treat you and get you on the road to recovery. Understanding what a biopsy is will help you to know what to expect and maybe make the whole experience less scary.
A biopsy is when they take a small sample of tissue from the patient. From there it is taken through a biopsy examination. This is where they will be able to get a better understanding of what type of mesothelioma you have so that they will be able to treat it properly. In order to get a good tissue sample with the minimal amount of recovery, they will typically do a thoracoscopy surgery.
A biopsy is done by studying the tissue underneath a microscope. They will then use different types of chemicals. Whichever one the tissue reacts to the best with will be the type of chemotherapy that is going to be used to treat the patient.

There are two different types of asbestos disease mesothelioma biopsies that can be taken. The first and most common one is incisional biopsy. This is where a very small sample of tissue is removed to be studied. The second kind is called excisional biopsy. This is where an entire area of abnormal tissue is removed. Both types of biopsies will be studied under a microscope and then tested with chemicals.
